Last month, Earnhardt Auto Center Employees raised over $3,000 for United Food Bank. United Food Bank dates back to July of 1983 when it began operations gathering and distributing food to Arizona organizations that were helping feed those in need. The Food Bank has since grown to meet the increased need of Arizona residents; covering 19,608 square miles, including some of the most remote areas in the state. Working with community partners that operate food programs like food pantries, meal sites, after-school youth meal programs, as well as distributing food on their own through their mobile pantries and Help Yourself Program, the food received by United Food Bank has one destination: hungry people in our community.
As part of our continuing support of United Food Bank, select Earnhardt locations will be designated drop-off spots for the Christmas in July Food Drive.
What is Christmas in July?
Christmas in July is an annual food drive competition between local Chambers of Commerce in the East Valley and Eastern Arizona to see who can raise the most money, and collect the most amount of non-perishable food to help stock the shelves of United Food Bank during the month of July.
Summer is the hardest time of the year for many individuals and families in Arizona.
When school ends, so ends the free and reduced school meal programs for thousands of children. That means greater food-insecurity for entire families. Summer is equally as difficult for seniors who are forced to choose between paying bills and purchasing food.
How you can help:
You can participate by donating non-perishable food items during the month of July. Most needed items include:
- Peanut Butter
- Canned Meat
- Canned Fruits & Vegetables
- Cereal (Whole Grain, Low Sugar)
- Soup, Stews, Chili, & Beans
- Milk (Canned, Dried)
- Rice & Pasta
